The protagonist of thriller films is set against a problem, an escape, a mission, or a mystery. No matter what sub-genre a thriller film falls into, it will emphasise the danger that the protagonist faces. They usually revolve around anticipation and suspense and their aim is to keep audiences scared and on the edge of their seats.
There are many sub-genres for thrillers such as;
Crime- The usual suspects, Jagged edge and the fugitive
Psychological- Memento, taxi driver and rear window
Science fiction- Aliens, inception and district 9
Religious- The devils advocate, the ninth gate and the Di Vinci code
Drama- Pulp fiction, The Shawshank redemption and Fight club
